Who we are

This Site is earlylifeinvestments.com, published by Early Life Investments, LLC. It is a family-finance education site: articles, worksheets, printable workbooks, and a small set of calculators. This policy explains what happens to information when you visit.

This policy covers this website only. It does not cover our pages on Facebook, Instagram or X, which are governed by those platforms’ own policies, and it does not cover any other site we link to.

What we do not collect

It is easier to start here, because the list is long. This Site has:

• No user accounts, logins or passwords. There is nothing to register for.
• No comment section. Nothing you can post, and nothing we store about you if you read.
• No contact form, and no newsletter signup. A newsletter is planned; if it launches, this policy will be updated before any signup form appears, and joining will always be something you opt into.
• No advertising network. No display ads, no ad tech, no behavioral ad targeting, and no advertising cookies.
• No selling or sharing of personal information. We have never done it and the Site is not built to make it possible.

We also do not knowingly collect any special categories of information — nothing about your health, your finances, your religion, or your household. If a page asks you to enter a number, it is a calculator, and it is described below.

What we do receive

Two things, both of them ordinary and neither of them personal.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to see which articles people read and how they arrived, so we know what to write next. It reports in aggregate — page views, referring site, approximate location by city or region, device and browser type, and how long a page was open. We cannot see who you are, and we make no attempt to identify individual visitors.

Two settings matter and we have deliberately turned them off: Google Signals and ad personalization are both disabled on our property, so your visits here are not used to build advertising profiles or to target ads to you elsewhere. Google Analytics 4 also does not log or store IP addresses; it uses the address in transit only to estimate a coarse location, then discards it. Google documents that behavior in its privacy controls reference.

We keep that data on a short clock. Event data — the individual page views and interactions — is set to expire after 2 months, the shortest retention Google offers. User-level data tied to a browser identifier expires after 14 months. Once those windows pass the underlying records are deleted. Aggregate totals built from them may persist in reports, but they cannot be traced back to a visitor.

If you would rather not be counted at all, install Google’s Analytics Opt-Out Browser Add-On, block analytics in your browser or an extension, or use a browser with tracking protection turned on. Nothing on this Site breaks if you do — every page, calculator and download works exactly the same.

Server logs

The Site is hosted on shared web hosting, and the web server keeps standard access logs the way essentially every server does: the requested page, the date and time, the referring page, the browser user-agent, and the IP address the request came from. These are used for security and troubleshooting, are not combined with anything else, and are not used to profile visitors. They are held for a short period and rotated automatically by the host.

Cookies and things stored on your device

The Site itself sets no cookies of its own. Here is the complete list of what may end up on your device:

You can delete or block all of these in your browser settings at any time. Blocking them costs you nothing here except the saved text size.

Calculators and site search stay on your device

This is worth saying plainly, because people reasonably assume otherwise. The college savings calculator, the compound interest calculator, the kids’ goal calculator and the life insurance calculator all run in JavaScript inside your browser. Your income, your savings balance, your child’s age and every other figure you type are never sent to us, never stored on a server, and disappear when you close the tab.

The same is true of Search ELI. The search index is a file your browser downloads, and matching happens locally. We never see what you searched for.

Affiliate links

Some pages link to books and products through affiliate programs — principally the Amazon Associates program and Books-A-Million through an affiliate network. If you click one of those links, the retailer or its network may set a cookie in your browser so that a later purchase is credited to us. That cookie is theirs, not ours, and their privacy policy governs it. We never receive your order details, your payment information, or your name — only an anonymous report that a qualifying purchase happened.

You are never obliged to use those links, and prices are the same either way. Full detail on how this works is on our Affiliate Disclosure page.

Links to other websites

We cite primary sources constantly — the IRS, the Social Security Administration, the CFPB, the Department of Labor, brokerages, and news organizations. Following one of those links takes you somewhere we do not control, and the destination site’s own privacy policy applies from that moment. We do not embed videos, social feeds, comment widgets, or third-party content that would load trackers into our pages.

Children’s privacy

Part of this Site is written directly to children — the Kids’ Corner pages, the worksheets, and the kids’ calculators. We take that seriously and hold those pages to a stricter standard than the rest of the Site.

• Kids’ pages carry no advertising and no affiliate links. Nothing on them is trying to sell a child anything.
• They ask children for nothing. No name, no age, no email, no forms, no uploads, no sign-ups.
• They tell children not to share personal information and to bring an adult into any money decision.

In the interest of being straight with you rather than reassuring: Google Analytics runs on every page of this Site, including the children’s pages. It counts page views; it does not ask for or receive names, ages, email addresses, or anything else that identifies a child, and advertising features are disabled site-wide as described above.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, in line with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act. If you believe a child has somehow provided us with personal information, write to the address at the bottom of this page and we will delete it. Parents are welcome to use the opt-out options above on any device a child uses.

How long anything is kept

Because we do not collect personal information, there is very little to keep. Analytics event data expires on the schedule described above. Server logs rotate on the host’s ordinary schedule. The text-size preference lives on your own device until you clear it. There is no customer list, no mailing list, and no database of visitors.

Your choices and your rights

Depending on where you live — California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia and a growing number of other states, or the UK and EU — you may have the right to ask what personal information a business holds about you, to correct it, to delete it, or to opt out of its sale. You are welcome to exercise those rights here, with one honest caveat: in almost every case we will have nothing to give you, because we do not collect personal information in the first place and we do not sell or share it.

The practical controls available to you are:

• Opt out of analytics using Google’s add-on, your browser’s tracking protection, or any content blocker.
• Clear or block cookies and local storage in your browser settings.
• Write to us at the address below with any question or request about privacy.

Because we do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, there is no sale to opt out of, and a Global Privacy Control signal from your browser has nothing to act on here.

Security

The Site is served over HTTPS, so traffic between your browser and the Site is encrypted. We hold no visitor database, no payment information and no credentials, which is the strongest security measure available to a site like this one: there is nothing stored to breach. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Changes to this policy

If what we do changes — most likely when the newsletter launches — this page will be updated and the “last updated” date at the top will change with it. Material changes will be described here rather than made quietly.
