Hourly Paycheck Tracker

Built for variable hours, overtime and holiday pay.

Budgeting on an hourly wage is harder than budgeting on a salary, because the number changes. Logging the hours as well as the pay turns an unpredictable income into a range you can actually plan against.

Download: PaycheckTracker-Hourly.xlsx — free, no email required, and it opens in Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets.

What This Workbook Does

  • Regular, overtime, holiday and other hours logged separately for each pay period.
  • Income and deductions alongside, so the take-home is tied to the hours that produced it.
  • Enough history, after a few months, to budget on your realistic low month rather than your best one.

How to Use It

  1. Log every pay period, including the light ones. The light ones are the point.
  2. Keep overtime in its own column. Budgeting on overtime you might not get is the common mistake.
  3. After three months, budget against the lowest month, not the average.
  4. Use the difference between average and low as the amount worth saving in good months.

What It Will Not Do

Hours logged here come from your stub, not from your own count. If the two disagree, the disagreement is the useful finding — take it to your employer.

Every workbook on this site is free. The full set — budgeting, debt, career, real estate and the kids’ sheets — is on the Worksheets & Planners page.
